There are fewer Skill Checks in the game that use Might than there are that use Speed, so if you plan to fight when necessary and avoid it when possible, Speed may be the better choice for you. This is a big decision to make at the start of the game, but making the perfect Glaive necessitates making it now.

The first decision you must make is whether you intend to use Speed Weapons (weapons that rely on speed for their Effort) or Might Weapons (weapons that use Might for their Effort). If you prefer combat as a means of completing quest lines above all else, this is the class for you.Īssuming you've made peace with your violent tendencies, there are two ways to make a Glaive. Glaives typically gain combat abilities, whereas other classes gain a mix of combat and non-combat abilities. Weapon Skills improve your chances of hitting with different weapon types, causing them to miss less frequently and expend less Effort in combat. Glaives are the only class in the game that lets you put points into Weapon Skills. Members of the party who fill both Bonded Item slots without penalty will be significantly more capable and powerful than those who do not.Īs a result, it is recommended that you use either the Observant or the Strong-willed Descriptors when creating your character, as both contain Concentration. It is significant because, while most Skill Checks in the game can be aided by your Party Members, those that require Anamnesis CANNOT.Īs a result, Anamnesis is a valuable Skill, particularly for non-Nano players and players with low Intellect.Īs previously stated, concentration allows you to use one more Bonded Item without penalty.īonded Items are uncommon and extremely powerful, bestowing new Abilities, increased combat damage, and, in many cases, increased Training in a variety of Skills. Torment's skills are a little confusing because the visual system they use doesn't match the description, making it difficult to sort out, so I'll break down a few things you should know about them, as well as fill you in on some crucial Skills everyone should have.Īnamnesis and Concentration are arguably the two most important non-combat skills.Īnamnesis allows you to recover knowledge from the memories of the Changing God, while Concentration allows you to use Bonded Items without penalty.Īnamnesis will frequently grant you XP and information that you would not otherwise receive, but that is not why it is so important.

This not only makes you more effective with Checks related to that Stat, but it also helps to reduce the amount of that Stat Pool you burn through by spending less Effort.Įdge is extremely valuable in this regard because it helps keep your Stat Pools full, allowing you to attempt more Skill Checks and Crisis before resting.

Having Edge in a specific stat simply gives you “free” Effort for any Skill Checks or attacks that use that stat. Using these Stat Pools is referred to as Effort.Įffort can increase the damage of your attacks as well as the chance to hit, making it extremely useful in combat situations. However, as you level up, these pools will grow, giving you more resources to spend as the game progresses. These are finite pools, and the more you use them, the less you will have later. When you undertake a Skill Check (opportunity with a percentage chance of success or failure) or an Attack in Torment, you can use points from your Stat Pools: Might, Speed, or Intellect to increase your chances of success. They don't play a big part in Character Creation, but they will help shape your character as you progress through the game. Edge and EffortĮdge and Effort are two of the most important concepts to grasp when it comes to character development. We'll start with some fundamentals before diving into the classes and the various builds available for each.
